HOW TO INSTALL WINDOWS 8 OS SIDE BY SIDE WITH OTHER OS

If you want to check out windows 8 without having to lose your own earlier windows operating system then here is the way for you. You can keep both the operating systems by simply partitioning the drive and installing the windows 8 in the other one. By this way you get to keep your old operating system and you can also check out the new windows OS thoroughly.

STEPS :

1. Download windows 8 customer preview (recommended x86).
[ Note : In order to install Windows 8, you'll need a valid product key. And you will find this product key under the download link you used to create the image file. WRITE DOWN THE PRODUCT KEY.]

2. Create a partition of the hard drive (It is done to make both the OSes run side by side) ->
[Note : You do not need to do it if you already have a spare drive]

  • Go to the start menuright click on Computer and click on managecomputer management window will open up.


  • Now, open disk management, right click on the drive you want to partition and click onShrink Volume.



  • Choose the amount of space to shrink for new partition (recommended 40 GB) , click shrinkand let the process complete.

3. Now, to install windows 8 you will need a bootable device of windows 8


->> To make windows 8 bootable DVD follow the following steps :

  • Insert a recordable DVD into your drive.



  • Go to the folder where you saved the download. Right click on the .iso file you downloaded, and then click “Burn disc image”.



  • Check the “Verify disc after burning” check box and click Burn. It may take a few minutes until the burn is completed.

4. Now, Restart your computer. If boot screen does not come up itself (which most probably won't itself) press the following key accordingly:

HP [F9], Lenovo [F12], Dell [F12], Acer [F12], ASUS [Esc] and Sony [F10]



5. Now boot your PC from DVD or USB.

6. Once your PC boots from DVD or USB, windows 8 installation will start.

7. Select your language preferences, click next, Press Install now and enter the product key you wrote down earlier and click next. Read the licence terms and click I accept box.

8. Select the Custom Install option (this is because you’re installing Windows 8 alongside your current OS). 



9. Select the drive and partition where you want to install Windows 8. select the new partition that we created above. It would be named "Unallocated Space".

[Note : be careful to only select new drive bot the earlier one]

10. Now just watch the windows 8 install and the PC will reboot itself after installation.

11. From now on, you will have a choice of choosing the OS when you Start your PC.




12. Choose a color and a name for your PC. To keep it simple, select the Express settings option. You can always change your settings later. 




13. Link your PC with your windows live ID, it will help you sync your apps, files, and settings across all of your Windows 8 devices. If you do not have an account click “Don’t want to sign in with a Microsoft account?".

14. Now select local account option, Create the login information and press Finish.



Congratulations! You’ve installed Windows 8!!!!
